Environmental Chemistry

This vast area of chemistry has many facets involving the environment.  Chemistry includes: 1) treating wastewater for injection into a river or lake, 2) enhancing the natural degradation of waste to environmentally friendly products, 3) cleaning or reclaiming oilfield water for its reuse in producing crude or discharge.

Common terms for water and wastewater treating are: Flocculation, Chlorination, Fluorination, Odour Control, volatile fatty acids (VFA's), Filtration, Scale and Disposal.

Most of these areas require Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) involvement.
